Biography:
Dr Lu Ming is Chief Scientist of Yunlong Lake Laboratory and Distinguished Professor at China University of Mining and Technology. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in the Department of Hydraulic Engineering at Tsinghua University in 1967 and 1981, respectively, and later earned a PhD from lmperial College of Science and Technology, London, UK, in 1987, under the supervision of world-renowned expert in rock mechanics, Professor E. T. Brown.
Lu has held key positions such as Deputy Director of the Geotechnical Research Division at the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Beijing, China, Chief Scientist and Senior Advisor at SINTEF of Norway, Adjunct Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Visiting Professor and Director of the NTU-JTC Industrial Infrastructure lnnovation Centre at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Lu became a member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences in 2009.
Research Areas:
With a strong theoretical background Prof. Lu is also an experienced practitioner. He has a vast experience in a variety of fields of rock mechanics and rock engineering. However, his main research interest is in the development and utilization of underground space and tunneling engineering. Lu has more than 35 years’ experience in underground energy storage of oil, gas and compressed air and has been involved in such projects in seven European and Asian countries. Lu has published about a hundred papers. He has chaired/co-chaired a number of international conferences and delivered invited/keynote lectures in more than ten international conferences.
